In this comprehensive tutorial I will provide you with information on how to install WordPress plugins. I wil also explain in details how to do it using the native WordPress installer, via FTP client and using wp-cli which is approach for more advanced users. No worries if wp-cli is something you never heard of. This is WordPress command line interface which can be used for the same operations that you usually do in the admin panel of your website. More information on how to use this tool will be provided in a separate tutorial. In the end you will see that wordpress plugin installation is not that hard.
Plugin installation using the native WordPress installer
WordPress plugin installation is really simplified to the maximum. Basically all you have to do is login to wp-admin section of your website, then click Plugins on the left menu and then Add new. Here is screenshot that shows the steps:
If these steps are following you will see the following on your screen:
Now just type the plugin name you are looking for and check the results. In my case I am looking for cache plugin so I am going to type cache in the search field. The result of my search is placed below:
The next steps are installation and activation. To do so just click Install Now button next to each plugin and then activate it.
How to choose a plugin
There are a few things to consider before installing a particular plugin. On the above screenshot you can see that there are stats for each extension. I usually install plugins that are regularly updated, have more active installations and of course have positive reviews. Usually plugins with up to 10 active installations are not working well or there is some problem with their code and most probably they cause issues with the websites.
